A Brief Introduction to Hazwoper

The Environmental Protection Agency of the U.S. issued a Resource Conservation and Recovery Act in the year 1976. This act was passed with the view of regulating the handling of hazardous waste. It included many different regulations, one of which was Hazwoper.

Hazwoper is actually an acronym. It stands for Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response. The Hazwoper regulation was created by OSHA or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of U.S. it was passed with the aim of protecting all workers who are involved in Uncontrolled Hazardous Waste Operations. In fact, it was passed to train workers who work with dangerous substances on methods to keep them safe and protected.

Hazwoper training is given to all those who deal with hazardous materials and substances in their job activities. It is the employer’s duty to see and make sure that the employee is trained before he starts working on the site. There are many different hazardous training courses available. These courses are all based on different levels. The level of training is given to the employees based upon their level of involvement with hazardous substances. It is mandatory to take this training in order to comply with the regulations. All the employees have to be aware of the Hazwoper requirements and what has to be done in case of an accident.
