HAZWOPER is a part of OSHA that stands for Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response. It is a blend of training courses recommended by OSHA so that the workers can expose to the hazardous materials safely. There are three main types of HAZWOPER training:
The learning outcomes of the course are:
- 40 hour HAZWOPER training
- 24 hour HAZWOPER training
- 8hour annual HAZWOPER refresher training
The learning outcomes of the course are:
- The trainees will understand the purpose of OSHA and how it regulates occupational safety
- The course is able to make the workers familiar with explosive materials, chemical or radiological hazards compounds and mixtures that may present danger
- The course suggests implementation of the proper procedures for treating workers in the event of hazardous exposure
- The course emphasizes on the importance of personal protective equipment to limit hazardous exposure
- Workers become aware of the use of site characterization so that they can be able to eliminate hazards
- The 24 hour HAZWOPER course suggests the use of Material Safety Data sheets (MSDS) to identify and properly handle hazardous materials
- It initiates an effective Site Control Program that limits the risk of exposure to who work in the hazardous sites
